Auto Detailing Part 1
Since i have no plan of going anywhere this weekend so i choose to spend time detailing my Vios.
I have been detailing since my first car (proud kenari and toyota owner).
Not to say that i’m very good in this but i just want to share my two cents in the art of auto detailing.
WASHING
Make sure to use proper wash mitt or soft cloth or soft sponge in order to minimize
swirls when washing your car, you don’t want to add more swirls to the existing one especially
when your car paintwork is black or in dark colour.
Try not to wash your car under direct sunlight. Soap/washing detergent will dry easily and leave watermark on the surface,
and the best time to do it is in the early morning hours.
Start by rinsing the car with a lots of water and a gentle stream to avoid scratches.
Excessive water pressure will cause the dirt to grind at the paintwork surface.
Use a detergent that is designed specifically for washing cars, in this case i’m using KIT CAR WASH.
Don’t ever use common dish washing detergent, it might harm the paintwork.
When washing a car, try to do it in sections, i usually start off with the roof since it will
make rinsing easier, then move on to front bonet, door, front fender, rear fender, rear bonet, lastly the wheels and tyres and make sure you do rinsing in between
in order to avoid soap film from developing.
After washing rinse the entire car just to be sure all the soap is washed away.
Remember to rinse the wash mitt / sponge in plain water to avoid dirt particles revisiting the surface of your car
the next time you wash your car. Car washing will be much easier and faster if two people on the job, one will do the sudsing
while the other follows close behind with the rinsing hose.
DRYING
For drying i use bath towel(cut into half), it’s better to use towels
such as Microfiber towel, they are excellent for drying cars and can absorb a lot of water.
Drying is best accomplished as a two part process. The first time you will get rid
of most of the water and the second pass will complete the job. Never let your car to dry after washing as the water
will create watermarks all over the car and it will be annoying to look at them.
GLASS CLEANING
Try not to do this under direct sunlight or if the glass is warm. In this case i’m using loads of paper towel with my RAIN-X (introduced by my cousin), have been using this product for quite some time already and very-very satisfied with the results.
You can also use old newspaper to clean the glass, not only on automotive glass but also on other glass based product like windows, bottles etc, which has a polishing effect.
Living in a country that receives a lot of rain throughtout the year, i choose to apply RAIN-X to my windshield.
Water will bead up like the wax on your car’s finish depnding on the amount of rain and your speed, you might not need your
windshield wipers at all. It takes some effort to apply and be sure to follow the directions.
